Turning on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is one of the most effective ways to protect your online accounts from cyber criminals.
You should protect your most important accounts (such as email, banking, social media, and online shopping) by making sure you have MFA turned on for each of them.
MFA is also known as 2-step verification (2SV) or two-factor authentication (2FA) and helps to keep cyber criminals out of your accounts, even if they know your passwords. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) recommend you take time to set up 2-step verification on all your important accounts, even for ones that you have protected with strong passwords.
MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring two or more forms of verification. Typically, it combines something you know (like a password), something you have (like a smartphone), and something you are (biometrics like fingerprints).
